Window With A View

Exposing the outdoor view with large glass windows and doors to invite the natural beauty of nature into your home, is a spectacular art form in itself.

When privacy or climate control is not an issue, window treatments are not necessary. However, more often than not, coverings are chosen with an abundant of choices to consider, including the window or door itself.

Glass, frame/sill material, window styles, alone, are another subject, so let’s do a quick overview of the basics and window coverings:

The energy efficiency of glass can vary dramatically. They are given two different types of values which measure heat loss: R and U values. Windows are most efficient if they have a relatively high R value and a low U value. The R value is Thermal Resistance – the ability of a material to resist heat flow. The U value is Heat Loss Measurement – how much heat will escape per hour through a window. To reduce heat gain, select glazing with a high shading coefficient.

Moving on to less technical details. To dress and accessorize your windows and doors, the choices are infinite…from customary to custom.

Below are window treatments for all window shapes and sizes listed in the order of Climate Control (highest to least) along with other helpful features to keep in mind:
